Untitled (Walls 2), 2008
“Nothing at the End of the Lane,” Soap Factory Gallery, Minneapolis, MN. Sheetrock, wood, paint. 25’x9.5’x10’. This project consisted of building a room within the project room that one could not enter, but walked around through a 30” wide passageway. The galleries at the Soap Factory are exposed brick with industrial remnants, with some clean, white walls superimposed upon or segmenting some areas of the space. The project room is a combination of exposed brick, tile, a half torn-down wall, and constructed white walls aspiring to be a “white cube.” This project addresses the urge to make something out of nothing as a response to the conflict of not knowing what to observe in that space; both the raw history of the space and the installed artwork compete for one’s attention. To watch a walk through the project with curator Ben Heywood, see the final 2.25 minutes of the this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK2N5tFUwLM
