Untitled (Walls 1), 2008
“Open Door 4,” Rosalux Gallery, Minneapolis, MN. Curated by Yasmil Raymond. Sheetrock, wood, paint. 8’2”x3’4”x4” and 8’7”x1’8”x4”. These two wall segments were made to fit two corners in the basement gallery that were left unfinished. The basement consists of uneven rock walls, a sloped floor, and other elements (heating and plumbing) that make for an awkward space to transform into a white cube, especially at the corners. The two wall segments were brought to the second floor gallery (the top level of three levels of galleries) to be fit back into a more regular, standard architecture. The even floor, low ceiling, and square corners exaggerate the crooked dimensions of the wall segments.
