"Architectonic Obtrusion," Project space, Franklin Art Works Gallery, Minneapolis, MN. Poured concrete. Approx. 33’x8’x6”. This massive concrete sculpture was poured on-site on top of the existing concrete floor in the project space. The project space is an awkward, asymmetrical room between the entryway, video gallery, offices, and main gallery. The design of the sculpture references some of the awkwardly placed, yet necessary elements, such as the entry ramp; it also exploits some of the unusual elements, such as the waved soffit and the curved wall. The sculpture can be walked on, as it continues the slope of the entry ramp, starting from level with the floor and flattens out when it reaches 6” high over 6’ of length. |
